“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” – African Proverb

FAQs

Thanks for visiting our site. We hope it explains most of what the challenge is all about but here are some FAQs that might fill in some of the blanks.

1. What is STRIVE?

keyboard_arrow_down

STRIVE is a purpose-driven challenge that unites extraordinary people to challenge themselves and drive Big Change together.

2. What is the Virgin STRIVE Challenge 2018?

keyboard_arrow_down

The Virgin STRIVE Challenge 2018 is the fifth event in the STRIVE series. Previous events have included:

    1. The Virgin STRIVE Challenge 2014: London to the summit of the Matterhorn
    2. STRIVE 2015: The West Highland Way and Ben Nevis
    3. The Virgin STRIVE Challenge 2016: The Matterhorn to Mt Etna
    4. STRIVE Morocco: Mount Toubkal

In September 2018 a Core Team will travel from Cagliari in Sardinia to the summit of Mont Blanc, in France, entirely under human and sail power. The Core Team will be joined by up to 200 stage participants as they cycle, kayak, hike and climb their way across Europe. The event is organised by Big Change and all funds raised will be used to catalyse positive change for young people in the UK through Big Change.

3. What is the Virgin STRIVE Challenge raising money for?

keyboard_arrow_down

Every pound raised by STRIVE is used by Big Change to support young people to thrive in life, not just exams.

Big Change was founded to think differently about how charity can be a catalyst for positive change. Big Change finds and partners with pioneering projects that are addressing clear gaps in how we are setting young people up to thrive in life, not just exams.

Change only happens if you do things differently. That is why funds raised from STRIVE are used to provide early-stage support for innovative projects that can drive long-term change.

We can have a disproportionate impact by finding and backing carefully selected projects at an early stage and then surrounding them with the support, connections and profile to accelerate their impact.

4. When is it taking place?

keyboard_arrow_down

The challenge will start on 30th August 2018, in Cagliari, Sardinia, and finish on the 2 October 2018, in Chamonix, France.

There are 27 challenge days with 4 rest days (for the Core Team) dividing the different stages.

5. What are the different stages of the challenge and when are they specifically?

keyboard_arrow_down

The 2018 challenge is broken down into 5 stages, 4 of which are available to stage participants/ and outlined below. You can sign up for a single stage or multiple stages.

The Core Team will be completing 5 stages including a Mont Blanc ascent, plus sailing between Sardinia and Corsica, and Corsica and France. All stages are outlined on our Route page.

Tickets are sold on a first-come-first-served basis so do be quick before they sell out.

10. Will I need to buy insurance?

Yes, you will need to take out travel insurance and inform your provider of the activities you are undertaking.

We will also follow up with you to confirm all your details and follow up on anything that is missing.

11. I have booked and would like to book my travel arrangements…

keyboard_arrow_down

All logistical information and suggested travel plans can be found in your Event Info Guide. This will be sent to you once you have signed up.

*The only exception to this is on the Hike Stages (stage 2 and 4), as participants will be staying in huts and refuges along the way, where you will either be in dorms or in tents. Accommodation will be provided for the evening before the hike starts, and for the evening it finishes for you to rest up.
