‘If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere’’ – Frank A. Clark

The Route

This year’s route has been designed to inspire and intrigue – it is our most adventurous yet!
It is also better balanced than anything we have done before, with two tough stages,
an intermediate stage and a more gentle stage.

About Stage 1

Stage 1 is made up of 4 days of cycling and two days of sea kayaking across the stunning island of Sardinia.

The cycling is relatively gentle in STRIVE terms and will be perfect for less experienced cyclists. We are cycling an average of 100km, with a 1000m of climbing, a day.

The sea kayaking is a totally new discipline to STRIVE and one we are seriously excited about! From Alghero to Porto Conte, we are kayaking through the Alghero Gulf, taking in Sardinia’s most pristine waters and stunning coastline.

We will be kayaking roughly 10km a day, which will take roughly 6 hours with a break for lunch.

About Stage 2

Stage 2 is a 5-day hike stage on the stunning island of Corsica. We are spending 4 days on the GR20 which is described as ‘the hardest but most beautiful hike in Europe.’

Only doing a section of it means it will be easier than its usual rating but still expect really long days, broken terrain and lots of ups and downs – the reward is breath-taking beauty and isolation.

We are staying in mountain huts along the way, meaning the accommodation is about as basic as it gets.

This is wilderness adventuring at its very best!

About Stage 3

Stage 3 is a 5-day cycle stage,  from Monaco to Tignes.

Cycling through the Southern Alps means climbing! Over this 5 day stage we will tackle plenty of iconic Tour de France climbs (including Cime de la Bonnette, the Col D’Izoard, Col du Vars and possibly the most famous climb of all, the Col du Galibier). Whilst the distances aren’t huge, this stage will present a wonderful test to any cyclist.

This really will be multi-day cycling at its very best and may just be the closest thing to riding in a Grand Tour as you will ever get. Think Pelotons and branded support cars, but throw in coffee stops and amazing lunches on the road too. Alpine cycling heaven…

About Stage 4

Stage 4 is another 5-day hike. If Corsica is rugged mountain peaks and high cols, this hike is more alpine meadows and valleys. We are hiking between the ski resorts of Tignes and Chamonix.

There will be wildflowers in the meadows and cowbells ringing from all corners. Think red wine, cheese and quaint Alpine villages…

Whilst this stage is considerably easier than Corsica, it will still require a good level of fitness and robustness.

Again, mountain refuges are basic, a small price to pay for being in the mountains.

About Stage 5

The finale to STRIVE 2018 – the Mont Blanc climb.

Only our Core Team will face the challenge of tackling Europe’s tallest mountain. Here is how our partners and guides at Adventure Base describe the climb: “Mont Blanc (4810m) is the highest peak in Western Europe.

It’s a beautiful, imposing and highly sought after summit to scale, a majestic peak that sits on the roof of the Alps. With magnificent views of the rest of the Alps from the summit, Mont Blanc entices mountaineers from all over the world year after year.

Although not massively technical, the climb is a challenge for any mountaineer. From beginners to the very experienced, it will no doubt test our Core Team to their absolute limits after a month of non-stop STRIVING.

It couldn’t be a more perfect and exciting end to the challenge.
